It is situated in the historical region of <strong><a title=\"Bukovina\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bukovina\">Bukovina<\/a><\/strong>. Siret is the eleventh largest urban settlement in the county. It is one of the oldest towns in Romania and it was the capital of the former principality of <strong><a title=\"Moldavia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moldavia\">Moldavia<\/a><\/strong>, in the late 14th century.
