Attending<\/u><\/strong> – Dov, Vera<\/strong> his wife, Shlomit Levy<\/strong><\/a> his daughter , Baruch Eylon<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>(my cousin), my sister Yetka huller<\/strong> and my daughter Ariel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Origin<\/strong> – The family moved from Galicia to Bukovina around year 1800. They had no specific professions. The name Drukmann was due to the fact that he was a \u201cSofer Stam\u201d- religious scribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael (Yechiel Mechel)<\/strong> received a large plot (~12,000 hectares) in a village called Hilcze<\/strong>, about 7 kilometers from Banila<\/strong>. Banila was a deserted place despite its fertile soil and pastureland. They grew a lot of corn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dov Shai (Schertzer<\/strong>– S.D) heard these facts from his mother Lotti <\/strong>(Leah Schertzer, born Druckman<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grandmother Sarah Druckman, Michael<\/strong>‘s wife, died at the age of 101.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael<\/strong> was active in the community (\u05e2\u05e1\u05e7\u05df). He was involved in a board committee of a trade vocational school in Chernovitz<\/strong>. When the schoolwas bankrupt, Michael was placed in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah<\/strong>, his wife, went to Vienna<\/strong> since she asked for and received a meeting with the Caesar. Sarah reached a financial arrangement with the Caesar, to pay the Caesar to release Michael<\/strong> from prison. Sarah<\/strong> sold all their ridge to the Adlersberg family<\/strong> (not related to us, a different Adlersberg family). Michael <\/strong>was released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was not aware that almost all the ridge was sold and got a heart attack. (according to Dov Shai<\/strong>‘s family saga book, he writes that discovering that the ridge was sold, instigated the heart attack – S.D)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until 1848, 148,000 estates were owned by Jews. In 1850 the Germans arrived and received plots of land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the British library in London there is archival information about Bukovina, and in Augsburg too (Germany – S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henia Druckman<\/strong>, Michael’s daughter<\/strong>, married an Adlersberg HaCohen<\/strong>. She bought a plot of land in Banila. Berl (Henia’s brother <\/strong>-S.D) received the estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dov Shai<\/strong> was born in 1927, in Hilcze<\/strong>. His father Berl<\/strong> sold the estate and they moved to Banila<\/strong>. They had a beer distribution agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Savta <\/strong>(grandmother – S.D) Bass\u2019e<\/strong> had a Kosher Mehadrin restaurant\/boarding house (Inn – S.D) with a few rooms. During the summer when people came from Chernowitz<\/strong> for vacation they stayed there. She also catered for small events (20-30 people).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avraham and Betty<\/strong> were the ‘two intelligent ones’. Avraham<\/strong> Gertler<\/strong> was an accountant in Seletin<\/strong>, 76km from Banila<\/strong>. (Michael Druckman <\/strong>– <\/strong>Berl’s son,<\/strong> lived in Seletin <\/strong>with his wife Jeannette Sussman and daughter Chaya<\/strong> – S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(His sister – S.D) Betty<\/strong> studied in Beit-Yaakov<\/strong>. The community opened the school (for girls – S.D) and my mother Betty taught there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseff <\/strong>(\u05d9\u05d5\u05d6’\u05d9\u05d5) – The only one that had a profession – as a hairdresser,  was  Yosef Gertler, their brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(There were many “Wagon Owners” in Banila (wagon taxis \u0096 S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Druckmans<\/strong> were \u2018snobs\u2019. They were the “Levi”, honored\/privileged, the elite of Banila.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a main synagogue in Banila<\/strong>, <\/strong>where the rabbi prayed. Uncle Shmuel,<\/strong> Henia Adlersberg’s brother<\/strong>, had a seat in the East (facing East   <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duniu Druckman (David Druckman<\/strong> – S.D’s grandfather – remark is regarding the family tree<\/strong> Duniu made which Dov Shai<\/strong> gave Bilha<\/strong> on her visit – S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recipe for Totch<\/strong>: (We tasted   in the meeting the special Drukmann Toch)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 eggs, half self-rising flour (measurement not mentioned – S.D), 1 packet of yeast, 5 large potatoes, 1 teaspoon of salt. Grate the potatoes (do not squeeze out liquids), add flour, yeast, salt and eggs. Leave to rest for 2 hours then place in a large oven baking pan for one to one and a half hours (temperature not mentioned – S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
