They had no specific professions. The name Drukmann was due to the fact that he was a \u201cSofer Stam\u201d- religious scribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michael (Yechiel&nbsp;Mechel)<\/strong>&nbsp;received a large plot (~12,000 hectares) in a village called&nbsp;<strong>Hilcze<\/strong>, about 7 kilometers from&nbsp;<strong>Banila<\/strong>. Banila was a deserted place despite its fertile soil and pastureland. They grew a lot of corn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dov Shai (Schertzer<\/strong>&#8211; S.D) heard these facts from his mother&nbsp;<strong>Lotti&nbsp;<\/strong>(<strong>Leah&nbsp;Schertzer,&nbsp;born Druckman<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grandmother&nbsp;<strong>Sarah Druckman, Michael<\/strong>&#8216;s wife, died at the age of 101.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michael<\/strong>&nbsp;was active in the community (\u05e2\u05e1\u05e7\u05df). He was involved in a board committee of a trade vocational school in&nbsp;<strong>Chernovitz<\/strong>. When the schoolwas bankrupt, Michael was placed in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sarah<\/strong>, his wife, went to <strong>Vienna<\/strong> since she asked for and received a meeting with the Caesar. Sarah reached a financial arrangement with the Caesar, to pay the Caesar to release&nbsp;<strong>Michael<\/strong>&nbsp;from prison. <strong>Sarah<\/strong> sold all their ridge to the&nbsp;<strong>Adlersberg&nbsp;family<\/strong>&nbsp;(not related to us, a different&nbsp;Adlersberg&nbsp;family). <strong>Michael <\/strong>was released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was not aware that almost all the ridge was sold and got a heart attack. (according to&nbsp;<strong>Dov Shai<\/strong>&#8216;s family saga book, he writes that discovering that the ridge was sold, instigated the heart attack &#8211; S.D)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until 1848, 148,000 estates were owned by Jews. In 1850 the Germans arrived and received plots of land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the British library in London there is archival information about Bukovina, and in Augsburg too (Germany &#8211; S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Henia&nbsp;Druckman<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Michael&#8217;s daughter<\/strong>, married an&nbsp;<strong>Adlersberg&nbsp;HaCohen<\/strong>. She bought a plot of land in&nbsp;<strong>Banila.&nbsp;Berl&nbsp;(Henia&#8217;s&nbsp;brother <\/strong>-S.D) received the estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dov Shai<\/strong>&nbsp;was born in 1927, in&nbsp;<strong>Hilcze<\/strong>. His father&nbsp;<strong>Berl<\/strong>&nbsp;sold the estate and they moved to&nbsp;<strong>Banila<\/strong>. They had a beer distribution agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Savta&nbsp;<\/strong>(grandmother &#8211; S.D)&nbsp;<strong>Bass\u2019e<\/strong>&nbsp;had a Kosher&nbsp;Mehadrin&nbsp;restaurant\/boarding house (Inn &#8211; S.D) with a few rooms. During the summer when people came from&nbsp;<strong>Chernowitz<\/strong>&nbsp;for vacation they stayed there. She also catered for small events (20-30 people).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avraham and Betty<\/strong>&nbsp;were the &#8216;two intelligent ones&#8217;.&nbsp;<strong>Avraham<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Gertler<\/strong>&nbsp;was an accountant in&nbsp;<strong>Seletin<\/strong>, 76km from <strong>Banila<\/strong>. (<strong>Michael Druckman <\/strong><strong>&#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Berl&#8217;s&nbsp;son,<\/strong>&nbsp;lived in&nbsp;<strong>Seletin&nbsp;<\/strong>with his wife Jeannette Sussman and daughter <strong>Chaya<\/strong> &#8211; S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(His sister &#8211; S.D)&nbsp;<strong>Betty<\/strong>&nbsp;studied in <strong>Beit-Yaakov<\/strong>. The community opened the school (for girls &#8211; S.D) and my mother Betty taught there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joseff <\/strong>(\u05d9\u05d5\u05d6&#8217;\u05d9\u05d5) &#8211; The only one that had a profession &#8211; as a hairdresser, &nbsp;was&nbsp; Yosef Gertler, their brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(There were many &#8220;Wagon Owners&#8221; in Banila (wagon taxis \u0096 S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Druckmans<\/strong>&nbsp;were \u2018snobs\u2019. They were the &#8220;Levi&#8221;,&nbsp;honored\/privileged, the elite of&nbsp;<strong>Banila.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a&nbsp;<strong>main synagogue in Banila<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>where the rabbi prayed. Uncle&nbsp;<strong>Shmuel,<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Henia&nbsp;Adlersberg&#8217;s&nbsp;brother<\/strong>, had a seat in the East (facing East <strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duniu&nbsp;Druckman (David Druckman<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; S.D&#8217;s grandfather &#8211; remark is regarding the&nbsp;<strong>family tree<\/strong>&nbsp;Duniu&nbsp;made which <strong>Dov Shai<\/strong> gave&nbsp;<strong>Bilha<\/strong>&nbsp;on her visit &#8211; S.D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A recipe for&nbsp;Totch<\/strong>: (We tasted &nbsp;&nbsp;in the meeting the special Drukmann Toch)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3 eggs, half self-rising flour (measurement not mentioned &#8211; S.D), 1 packet of yeast, 5 large potatoes, 1 teaspoon of salt. Grate the potatoes (do not squeeze out liquids), add flour, yeast, salt and eggs.
